Saving up for...1/2/3/4/5/6

So I’ve been working really hard lately to save money and get financially savvy (more on that later) and when ever I’m feeling a little like binge buying I remember all the things I’ll buy guilt free when I reach my savings goals!

(1) Tripod

I’m really enjoying filming and vlogging and I’m keen to branch out and try more things so I’ll soon need a nice beginner’s tripod!

(2) RETURN TO RAVNICA

I’m SO EXCITED for the new MTG pre-release! I’m going to two this weekend, one on Friday at midnight and then again on Saturday at three. Here’s hoping I can stay awake for it! I’ll be vlogging the whole thing so you can get excited too!

(3) SD Card

On the topic of film and vlogging I could really use another SD card, maybe even a new harddrive!

(4) Creative Inc.

I had this book recommended by a friend and it look’s pretty cool

(5) STAR WARS AND BLACK MILK

Black Milk is one of my favourite clothing stores online although it’s recent popularity can be frustrationg when thing sell out. But they’ve finally got lisencing to do a Star Wars themmed release and I swear to science if I don’t get me some sweet R2D2 action then heads will roll.

Heads.

Will.

ROLL

*ARG okay breath*

(6) Creative Suite

I just can’t wait to play around with ALL of Adobe’s wicked software, even if it is damn expensive.

A Happy Accident

So now that I’m a massive convert into the world of LARP I’ve made friends with a lot of the crazy creative types who also attend. Which has led to an even more unlikely foray for me… modelling. Not the fancy fashiony kind, but costume and character modelling! I was always the unphotogenic one growing, half the time I glowed thanks to pasty skin and flashes. So it was a little unexpected.

Pasty Ferret Face

Anyway, one of the Swordcrafters knew lots of photographers and lots of models so she decided to hold an event for them. You could bring along your own costume or borrow from the spares and the photographers could walk around working on folio pieces! I took my Han Solo costume (from a party so fairly badly done) and was treated to make up and hair.

ON TO THE PHOTOS!

Snarly Han Solo is snarling!

This one is taken by the same guy who originally convinced me to come along to the shoot. His work is amazing and you can see more of it at Waghorn Photography. I had so much fun being Han Solo, I know the costume is pretty mediocre and it’s a nerf gun not a blaster but I’m pretty pleased with how it came out for just a last minute affair.

Spoooooky

Scared of the dark, ey?

After Hanning it up for a while, one of the lovely ladies who sells costumes had brought along some of her wares and asked me to model them for some promo shoots. I, of course, was freakin DELIGHTED!

Extremesteam

I’ll have a few more of the steampunk photo’s up soon, for a little project I’ve started…

In the end I don’t like the idea of being judged, leeched on or objectified, so I was approaching the experience somewhat tentatively. But I was worried for nothing, the day wasn’t about being sexy, it was about having fun! Although I certainly had on more makeup than I’m used to, I still felt like me. Although my I was posing, I was Lady Han Solo: Resident Bad-Ass. For me it was an amazing day of mucking around, dressing up and feeling fantastic!

10 Things that Make Me Smile…

3)

A friend of mine brought this to my attention… I must hang out with him more

4) Cosplay.

Just in general man. It’s something I’ve admired from afar for so long… Thanks to getting my feet wet with LARP I just can’t resist giving it a go! I’m gonna try and make it to the Supernova Convention Cosplay Competition, suggestions?

5) I got an xbox for Christmas, and although Halo team campains kick ass, they always degrade in to epic team kill sessions… which is even moar fun

Sucked in…

In my search for enlightenment (I can’t even type that with a straight face) I have come across a hobby.

A very strange hobby.

I was walking past the local oval to a friend’s house when I happened to notice a rather odd looking group of people holding swords. I was intrigued.

Dragging the friend away from Skyrim, we wandered back to have a look. Having fenced a little in high school I had thought it some kind of fencing club. We were quickly greeted by a strange little man in what appeared to be chain-mail holding a sword made of a rigid sort of foam. We were told that we could easily join in after paying the $2 registration. We quickly scraped together the two dollars between us (we’re uni students) and I was signed up before I really knew what was going on.

Of course, next thing I knew I was told to join the “Elves” and that the battle started at 8:00

Imagine my surprise when I realized I had accidently and irreversible sucked into the wild world of LARP…

A Wander Through

I had a shocker of a day yesterday, and turned up at a friends door asking for a walk and an adventure to take my mind of it.

After discovering the joy of circular swings (I’ll put a photo up later) we decided to find a way into the graveyard near where I live.

I’ll be honest, I’ve only ever been to a graveyard for funerals and they were very minimalistic, modern affairs. This on the other hand is a huge, rambling and eerie resting place. After climbing a fence that was taller than me, with barbed wire, we started just wandering through. A frightening wander, the first scare came when I saw a soft glow coming from a distant grave. Upon inspection we realised it was a still lit candle. At midnight.

I hope it was a long burning candle.

There was also a gazebo, with a plate of marble in the center of the floor. As we walked up to it we had no idea if it was water or marble, reaching out to touch it felt like reaching to a portal, anything could pour out.

I jumped every time I saw a crack in the covering of a grave, there were some that had caved in (or out), some that looked like they had been shifted and some that looked as if an animal had buried into them. The graves seemed to go back well in to the 1800’s, with the oldest I could read being 1830 something. Which for Australia is pretty bloody old.

The real scare however was when I was a few paces behind my friend, and the concret of the path he was on shifted. I of course, couldn’t feel the loose stone and instead was only aware of the noise of concrete shifting against concrete.

Whilst in a graveyard.

Surrounded by concrete graves.

In spite of my distaste for physical contact, it seems that I, like most, jump to feet in the air and then cling to things when startled.

Throughout all of this however, was a strange, melencholy, pensive, respectful, peace spreading though me. It was beautiful, even in the dark. The trees, the stonework, the history. Oddly enchanting.

So I went back this afternoon to take a few photos. There was this strange purple glass the had broken throughout the graveyard, I’m not sure where it was from but it was on graves, the path, in a tree, everywhere. I wonder what it was.

You know how in department stores, when it’s closing time, there’s a voice over the speakers asking you to leave?

Graveyards don’t have that. So I got locked in.

Which makes a graveyard quickly turn from a moment of peace during a rough day, to a horryfying nightmare.

Especially when without a jumper, you can’t cover the barbed wire to jump the fence.

Luckily, I had my phone and was able to ring for help from a friend. Much to his amusement.

Halloween

Well Halloween isn’t really that much of a big thing at my college, but we do love costume parties! So in the spirit of Halloween I thought I’d share a few of my costumes from this year!

Top Left to Bottom Right

Trannie Turn

(The first turn’s theme was gender swap and I thought we needed more fancy gentlemen at the party)

Rubix Turn

You start the night out with as many colours as you can and then try to switch clothes until you’re all one colour

Politically Incorrect Party

Got there late, so they put my hair in pigtails and gave me a lollypop so that I was prostitute, so politically incorrect

The ‘S’ Turn

I went as the Silk Spectre 1, 1 person actually recognised the costume.

Rowing Day

I love watermelon helmets

Famous Turn 1, 2, 3

Han solo is famous right? Was my favourite costume so far, hence the 3 photos.

Harry Potter Dinner and Turn 1, 2

Helped organise the dinner dressed as Death Eater the went to the party as a hybrid of Ginny/Hermione

“Band” Turn 1, 2

You had to go as a literal interpretation of a band name, I was the mechanical half of Florence and the Machine

5 Things

Well, I have a little shame
